Dear CES Families,
I am writing to officially welcome you all back to school! We are so excited to once again share our building with your children!
The first day of school for students in grades 1-6 is this coming Monday, August 28th. Doors will open at 7:30 and students should arrive by 7:50. The school day ends at 2:20. Kindergarten students will begin school on Wednesday, August 30. Preschool students will begin school on Tuesday, August 5. A link to the school calendar is here:
A couple of items to note:
We will hold our annual welcome back BBQ for students, staff, and families on our first Thursday, August 31. Meals are free of charge for children up to age 18. The adult charge for lunch is $5 per person. The BBQ will be followed by a first Thursday performance and celebration in the gymnasium which will begin around 1:30. We hope that you can join us as we ring in the new school year with some humor and excitement!
First Thursday BBQ Information
Speaking of meals, all student meals are free of charge this year. Regardless, we are hoping that families will complete and return the free and reduced meals form as this data helps our school qualify for important federal grants which assist us in paying for some of our teachers who provide crucial academic interaction for any student who needs it. All information is confidential and every eligible student counts toward our allocation. We only need this form completed by some of our families. Beth will be emailing this form to these families today or tomorrow.
The first day menu is as follows:
Breakfast:
Egg & Cheese Bagel
Breakfast Yogurt Parfait
Asst. WG Cereal w/Animal Crackers
Variety Oatmeal Packets
Homemade Bread
Mozzarella String Cheese
Assorted Fresh, Dried or Canned Fruit
Milk Variety
Lunch:
Macaroni and Cheese with cornbread and broccoli
Fresh Fruit & Veggie Bar
Milk Variety
Monthly menus can be accessed here:
Kelly Shortsleeve and our stellar transportation staff have been working hard on designing this year’s bus routes. Bussing questions can be emailed to Kelly at KShortsleeve@lnsd.org. We will continue to utilize our drop off and pick up lane for students who are transported to school by family or friends. Ben Shortsleeve will continue to direct traffic and school staff will be present on the sidewalk in the mornings and afternoons. Please continue to “pretend” that School Street is one way during the drop off and pick up periods entering on School Street and exiting on Carleton Avenue.
We’ll be using a new way to report absences, late arrivals, and dismissal changes this year! This new system, called PickUp Patrol, will provide you with a convenient way to make changes and double check your children’s plans, while helping us to streamline our practices and keep students safe. You’ll be receiving an email invitation to set up a PickUp Patrol account later today. You can find out more information about this new tool by visiting our school website.
You may have noticed that our school email address has changed from cesvt.net to lnsd.org. A Google migration occurred for the entire Lamoille North Supervisory Union during the summer months and each school now shares this address. You can find employee email addresses on our website.
That’s enough for now! It has been a difficult summer for many people in our community. The return of structure and routine will be good for all of us! Our staff is deeply committed to creating and maintaining a learning atmosphere filled with love, joy, and a sense of belonging for all of our students. I remain proud and privileged to be a member of this amazing school community.
I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday morning. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns that you may have.
Go Wildcats!
Respectfully,
Mary Anderson, CES Principal
