LNSU Recovery Needs for 21-22

LNSU RECOVERY PLANNING IMPLENTATION NEEDS FOR 2021-2022

 

DOMAIN:  SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL) AND WELLNESS

 

Team/Committee Membership:  School Counselors, Nurses, DEI Coordinator, MTSS Coordinator, Planning Room and Student Center Personnel, Behavior Specialists, Administrators, LCMH, Lamoille Restorative Center (LRC), Healthy Lamoille Valley, etc.  Large district team will break into sub-committees to work on various goals.

 

Goal #1:  Create, implement and maintain a coordinated district-wide SEL/Health/Wellness System, to include   providing guidance, support, and interventions for all students in each school and in the community. (By 6/2022)

a.       Complete School Health Index (SHI) in each school and use other data to assist in the development of SEL Guide.

b.       Develop a LNSU SEL Guide

c.       Integrate SEL across all domains of learning, where appropriate, provide consistent mental health services, and use universal health screeners.

 

Goal #2: To help student’s better deal with conflict and improve school culture, a new three-year plan is needed in the areas of trauma informed and restorative practices and approaches to healthy school climates (day to day practices and procedures). (By 6/2023)

a.       Develop new LNSU 3-year Restorative Practice Plan, to include trauma-informed practices, improving school culture/climate and social skills, and increasing understanding and importance of diversity and inclusion.

b.       Assess professional training and coaching needs & determine opportunities to be offered.

c.        Develop a Restorative Practices Toolkit and update School Handbooks.

 

Goal #3:  To assist families in meeting their basic needs, home to school connections will be strengthened in order to help students navigate school, home, and community life.  (By 6/2023)

a.       Implement Universal Screeners.

b.       Collaborate with community partners in creation of a stronger referral process across the district.  Community partners will assist in provision of exemplars, guidance and assistance regarding well-being screening and associated tools.

c.       Continue to provide training on recognition of signs of mental health crisis.

 

Goal #4:  Provide substance use education, prevention and counseling to students and families

a.       Develop a stronger referral process for out of school substance use resources.

b.       Research prevention curriculums/programs.

c.       Find a school-based substance abuse counselor.

DOMAIN:  ENGAGEMENT & TRUANCY

 

Team/Committee Membership:  School Counselors, Nurses, DEI Coordinator, MTSS Coordinator, Data Manager, Planning Room and Student Center Personnel, Behavior Specialists, Administrators, LCMH, Lamoille Restorative Center (LRC), Healthy Lamoille Valley, etc.  Large district team will break into sub-committees to work on various goals.

 

Goal #1:  Create consistent methods that include both attendance data systems and procedures as well as a consistent response to absenteeism.  (6/2022)

a.       Develop consistent language, coding procedures and referral practices.

b.       Communicate procedures and systems to relevant parties.

c.       Determine communication system for students and families.

d.       Consider use of school-based problem-solving team members in response to individual student and family needs.

 

 

Goal #2:  To create consistent methods for data tracking, analyzing, and responding to attendance concerns through an equity lens, resulting in a decrease in absenteeism for the 2021/2022 school year and beyond. In addition, we need to Increase personalized, needs-based, communication to families.

a.       Create systems to gather consistent data with a focus on historically marginalized populations, including surveying school personnel and families on matters specific to family outreach.

b.       Increase the capacity of the School Attendance Specialist to provide direct service support to students.

c.       Improve responsiveness and increase communication with families with barriers to include a more robust referral and wraparound system.

 

 

DOMAIN:  ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT & SUCCESS

 

Team/Committee Membership:  Classroom Teachers, Special Educators, Interventionists, Administrators, MTSS Coordinator, Data Manager, Literacy/Math/MTSS/Curriculum Consultants, Director of 21C After-School Programs

 

Goal #1:  To support Tier 1 universal instruction by increasing knowledge and understanding about a structures and balanced literacy curriculum and how the different purposes of each component supports students, to include teaching across ability levels and increasing high quality instruction via shared leadership to build expertise and sustainability.  (6/2023)

a.       Implement a literacy and math coaching/facilitation model at each of the elementary schools to include:

-embedded PL on the Effectiveness of Coaching, use of PLC’s (Professional Learning Communities, and PBL (Professional Based Learning)

-increased effective use of data to inform instruction

-development of a TOSA (Teacher on Special Assignment) cohort model to support new hires and provide models of best practices and high quality instruction

 

Goal #2:  To reestablish a district MTSS team whose task will be to develop a three year implementation plan.

a.       Provide additional training in use of various types of data and differentiating instruction

b.       Build a PK-12 Local Comprehensive Assessment System

c.       Expand the structures of Problem-Solving Teams, Progress Monitoring, overall EST systems.

d.       Create a MTSS Handbook

e.       Create school schedules that support intervention opportunities and enrichment for every student without loss of direct instructional time

 

Goal #3:  To provide a comprehensive K-12 Summer Program that will focus on the three areas of student concern: 

*Socioemotional Functioning, Mental Health and Wellbeing

*Student Engagement

*Academic Achievement and Success

 

a.       Review data from the 2021 K-12 Summer School Program to establish needs for the 2022 Program.
